Declaration Alliance

An Open Letter to Keyes 2000 Supporters from Alan Keyes
Mother Teresa said that God does not call us to be successful, He calls us to be faithful. And I am writing this message to thank you for being faithful to the political work we have undertaken together. Our efforts have engendered a political movement whose mission is to restore to their rightful place in American life the principles of the Declaration of Independence. Please be assured that all your time and hard work are helping to better the American political landscape. While change comes slowly, the key is to keep our eyes focused on the truth and to keep pushing ahead, for our battle has really only just begun.

Thanks to you, the Keyes 2000 effort accomplished great things, as even the raw numbers of conventional political success show: 1.25 million votes for a campaign unwavering in its defense of true American principles and a spot on the ballot in 46 of the 48 states holding primaries or caucuses. Your membership and extraordinary grassroots efforts were vital to these successes, and you should be very proud of the example your work has set for all Americans.

Even more important than these numbers, the Keyes 2000 movement provided a crucial standard, particularly in the televised debates, that kept the conscience of the Republican Party on track at moments when the mainstream political machinery otherwise might have gone fatally off course. Other candidates knew that their positions would receive clear and rational critiques based on the fundamental principles of the Declaration and Constitution. How valuable for our Republic to hear the voice of conscience during the presidential race! Together we will continue to provide that voice, amplify it, broadcast it. I thank you for your continued support in this crucial work.

For our struggle does not end with the presidential race of 2000--it really only begins. The work accomplished among grassroots conservatives must continue until the moral conscience of America, as articulated in the principles of the Declaration, is recognized as the soul and foundation of American liberty and justice. Now is the time to regroup and unite our efforts to form a strong clear Declarationist voice calling for the moral renewal of our country.

The Declaration Alliance and its political action committee, DAPAC, form the "political" arm of the renewal movement begun among grassroots activists during the 1996 and 2000 campaign cycles. Independent of any political party, DA has only one mission--renewing in American hearts allegiance to the principles of the Declaration, our noble American creed. Like our Founding Fathers, DA's political action is wholeheartedly devoted to higher purposes than just the gaining of office or the protection of a particular material interest. DA enters the arena to do battle for the liberty and justice that it is our God-given duty to vigilantly and energetically preserve. At DA, we believe that the principles of the Declaration are eternally true, and the basis for American life, liberty, and happiness. Please join us in carrying out this conviction in the tumultuous arena of the American political struggle, for the benefit of our country and the betterment of our fellow citizens.
